A Homemaker is a responsible individual who has been trained to provide a variety of supportive services as outlined below, which are necessary to maintain a disabled or dependent person safely and comfortably within the home setting.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Homemaker accepts responsibility for her/his own actions and:
- provides necessary information on health status and experience
- performs household services such as: planning, preparing and serving meals, purchasing food and household supplies, making and changing beds, cleaning and dusting household furnishings, mopping floors (with a mop) and vacuuming, cleaning bathroom and kitchen, washing dishes, laundering, sewing, and light ironing of client clothes
- observes, records, and reports to placement worker and field supervisor: physical, mental or behavioral changes in the client, any changes in family situation that may affect the client, any emergency situations, requests from client, client's family or physician for changes in service plan or schedule
- establishes and maintains a therapeutic relationship with
- clients, providing psychological and emotional support
- attends six (6) hours of in-service education annually
- practices safe and competent care within the job description
- communicates with the agency about problems and concerns
- complies with state/federal regulatory acts and agency policies
- adheres to agency work rules
- accepts supervision by nursing and/or other supervisory staff
- is available for consultation and case conferences when necessary
- may escort client to appointments, with the permission of the supervisor; the client must provide own transportation; may accompany in a van and/or taxi
- successfully completes the required forty-hour Homemaker Training Program within six (6) months of hire
- perform other job-related duties, as requested by their supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS:
The Homemaker is a mature person who:
- is flexible, sensitive to the needs of others, reliable, and able to cope with emergencies
- is able to communicate in English
- is able to carry out and understand directions and instructions
- is able to record messages and keep records
- is physically and emotionally capable of performing the job
- has good organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- completes agency orientation
- attends mandatory Universal Precautions update annually
- can provide three (3) satisfactory references
- can provide completed, current, physical and T.B./chest x-ray results
- consents to a Criminal Offender Record Investigation check
